Working in collaboration with HUSH, SITU Fabrication assisted in the design, fabrication and installation of a holistic executive-level experience for a NYC Tech Office's headquarters that inspires guests with the power of their own data and advanced technology. “Deep City” is a three part installation: “The Passage,” “City Cave” and “The Skywalk that records a guest’s data through gesture, movement and voice to generate an informational and artistic record of their journey.
Brought on to help realize The Passage and City Cave, SITU worked closely with HUSH to help communicate the company's ability to transform human data into rich, personalized experiences. The Passage is a geologically inspired monolithic wall made of translucent strips that emit digital content. Programmable LED panels are suspended behind flat-slacked clear frosted acrylic topographies to produce a variable lighting effect along the undulating wall. The 72 layers of milled acrylic are stacked on a pedestal, measuring 8 ft high and 18 ft in length with custom engineered metal rods and bars which tie back to vertical floor-to-ceiling steel posts for structural stability, while minimizing impact of the transmission of light. The backside of the screen is removable but lockable to service the LED’s & drivers.
The City Cave is composed of 22 panels of arrayed dichroic glass suspended at angles to form an immersive environment. The modules are stacked and connected by a minimal frame custom designed and engineered to have minimal visual impact. Behind the removable glass panels, OLED TV screens provide digital content allowing visitors to interact with the space.
